Everyone at Shenley Leisure Centre is so excited for Christmas…If Boris doesn’t cancel it that is. Who doesn’t love Christmas? If you are interested in staying fit and healthy this Christmas, then this blog is for you. Even Santa works out sometimes, okay maybe he doesn’t. His elves sure do have to be in shape though.

That boxing day sale rush will soon be around the corner, so let’s box away those calories before it arrives.

Here are our Five Festive Fitness tips:

  1. Enjoy Yourself

After all, it is Christmas! Restraining yourself from some foods will only result in you eating more. Let your hair down (if you have hair). Who am I to tell you how to eat this Christmas? Just eat in smaller portions.

We want you all to reach your fitness goals so that you stay off Santa’s naughty list, therefore we are staying open as much as we can for Christmas.

We will do our best to keep our classes running also around the Christmas period, please ask reception for our opening hours and or to confirm which classes will be open.

If you can’t make it to our leisure centre, please do not hesitate to contact us via our social media platforms, and our personal trainer (social media manager) will assist you with some advice.

  1. Train with a pal

Christmas is time for friends and family, after you have had your pigs in blankets. Why not come down to our gym with a friend? It is proven that training with a friend is more beneficial for you as it keeps you motivated. Having a festive friendly competition won’t hurt anyone now, will it?

Speaking of friends, at Shenley Leisure Centre we have a lot of charitable friends. What’s The Drama are one of our best friends. They provide creative opportunities, coaching and support for adults with learning disabilities who want to increase their confidence learn new skills and pursue their interest in performing arts. Take a look at their website here:  https://www.whatsthedrama.com/

Also, look out for our 12 days of Shenley Christmas giveaway on our social media. We will be rewarding local charities and sporting teams with some freebies of our facility such as a 10 free gym passes.

  1. Get out of the house

You’re going to love this one if you have siblings that make you want to pull your hair out. The Christmas holidays don’t have to just be spent indoors, planning outdoor activities where everyone is involved can be fun too. Even a friendly (or unfriendly) snowball fight in the back garden will burn off a lot of those calories. Speaking of snow, Did you know that snow is not white? Snow is translucent and it consists of ice crystals. However, due to the way in which those ice crystals reflect light, snow appears white to the human eye. Yes, we also have snow specialists at Shenley too.

  1. Put a Plan in Place

If you fail to plan, then you plan to be on Santa’s naughty list. Some people feel more successful if they have a clear and structured plan in place. Benefits of having a plan include, being able to track your progress, nothing being missed from your list and removing any excuses. If you are struggling to come up with a fitness plan, speak to one of our personal trainers and they will help you to create one.

  1. Don’t overdo it

And breathe! The most effective way to stay fit is to combine regular exercise with a balanced diet. Christmas would be nothing without some Celebration box chocolates and mince pies. Even Santa has to balance his diet by having carrots and a mince pie with some milk. Ensure that this Christmas, you stock up on those greens such as Brussels sprouts, cabbage and other vegetables so you can add a boost to your boogie this holiday season.
