Walking Football

MK 7 a side Walking Football Star League

The new walking football league starts on Saturday 17th June 2017 at 9.45am – 11.45 am, at Shenley Leisure Centre.

Walking Football’s popularity is growing fast and the many benefits to physical and mental health of regular exercise for all are well known. First established in Chesterfield in 2011, there are now, over 1000 teams playing regularly across the country. The FA People’s Cup was a big step for Walking Football and the first national event to encourage the less fit and older player to participate. Existing and former top players including Harry Kane, Geoff Hurst, Alan Shearer & Fabrice Muamba are lending their names and support to developing Walking Football across the UK.

The Star League brand was started in Buckingham where participation in 11 a side football is high. Local interest in the sport and need for a competitive six a side football league created a massive response. The League has flourished and is now starting its third season with 16 teams competing in two leagues and a cup competition. Organiser John Westcott now wants to introduce a competitive Walking Football league, open to a wide range of ages and abilities, into Milton Keynes.

MK Walking Football League was set up to enable people of all ages and abilities to play competitive football. Played at a slower pace, walking football, enables players to continue playing the game they love, improve personal fitness and get active again. Everyone is welcome, individual players can come along and join a team, and there’s a chance to socialise and make new friends.

The Milton Keynes Star League offers teams the opportunity to compete each week for league positions. Man of the Match medals will be awarded after each match and players will compete for the Player of the Season award. The website provides up to date information on the league with results, leading goal scorers and leaders in the Man of the Match standings. There will also be a Shenley Cup Competition that will include all teams in group stages and then knockout rounds. Trophies will be presented at the end of the season for different awards, League Champions and the Shenley Cup title.

The league will give players the opportunity to play regular competitive football at a pace that makes it accessible and enjoyable for all ages and abilities.
